April: Boring with A Kappa-til B

What's up haunted crew? April is here and a blog that I intended to update once every week, has only seen one update since the start of the year... Oop's sorry about that! But let's get straight into today's update!

We had a massive interest in our Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga giveaway! So much so that there were many people looking for a second one, so that's what we did. A the time of writing this, the latest giveaway can still be entered at https://gleam.io/0Cirb/win-a-copy-of-lego-star-wars-the-skywalker-saga-any-console There seems to be a drought coming in new games though, so if there is something you would like us to take a look at, please just let us know.

Boring!!!!!!!

Right at the centre of this is the fact, that people aren't shy in letting me know, that they think my content is boring! Well... they aren't wrong! Look, I'm not here for an ego stroke, or to become "twitch famous." I simply want to play some games, show them on stream and give people the opportunity to chat that may feel a little lonely. I've watched it back, and you are right. It is boring! I've become so engrossed in the technical side of streaming, that I often forget to actually provide good content! Here's the thing though; that's probably not going to change in the coming month.

Why a month you ask? That's an awfully good question reader! The answer is this; I focus on the technical aspect because I can see that it's not working correctly. My frames are dropped/skipped, the stream stutters and I start to fixate upon output readings, rather than the game. I thought the upgrade from a GTX 1080 to an RTX 3080TI would fix the issue. It didn't. I think rendering and encoding on the GPU are still bottlenecking. I bought all the bits to water-cool the new card and overclock it but so far haven't found a day to pull my PC apart to do that (I also use my PC for my business).

The internet connection needs to be more stable. My Starlink dish needs to be mounted on the roof of my house, which is fine, only the bracket I ordered from Starlink in February still hasn't arrived yet. Getting this mounted on the roof will provide a better connection and minimize the bit rate wobbles. Even if Starlink shipped the bracket today (highly unlikely due to supply issues), it's still going to take at least a week or more to arrive with me from California. All this I'm expecting is going to take until at least the end of April. So if you can stick around with me until then, it should ultimately prove to be a changed experience!

So what am I working on now then?

  1. I'm working on the Emotes for you Sub guys! I have hired a designer, they are in the works, and should be available in two weeks!

  2. Discord: Soon my discord is going to be live! It's been delayed, it's been put off, it's been ignored, but it is going to finally be joinable at the end of this month!

  3. Ongoing technical work: I recently bought a PS5 so I'll be adding that into my stream, my card needs water-cooled, Starlink work, etc.

The website and Youtube are admittedly, on the back burner for now at this one man studio. They are there, they have some functionality which can be useful for reference, but let's not expect them to change just yet! After Discord is done, Youtube takes its place in the priority list. The website is functional, it does all I need it to do, it just needs to be prettier?

I am also starting to prep for a massive birthday giveaway/charity live stream which is at the end of June. I want to giveaway a console of some sort, but I also need to plan it in a way that we also generate money for charity. For example, there's no point in me spending £450 on a PS5 if we only raise £100, I should just give the money to said charity instead. So these ideas are currently bouncing around my head.

That is it for now though. As always, look after yourselves and we'll catch up soon. Take care!
